Lizinom protiv herpesa

Herpes

There are two main types of herpes simplex viruses (HSV). HSV type 1 infects the tissues around the lips and mouth (and rarely the eye), while HSV type 2 causes genital infections. Herpes produces recurrent clusters of small, painful blisters containing the virus. HSV infections are common: it is estimated that 20–40% of the US population have recurrent infections of one or both forms. HSV type, in otherwise healthy adults, is not dangerous, but genital herpes occuring during pregnancy and delivery can produce a lifethreatening infection in the newborn. Although most people are exposed to herpes viruses (contact with HSV type 1 is nearly universal), not everyone develops a recurrent infection. Optimum nutrition and stress reduction may help reduce the frequency and severity of infections.

Diet – Herpes

The dietary ratio of two amino acids may influence herpes infections. High intakes of arginine promote growth of the virus (the herpes virus requires arginine for growth), while higher intakes of lysine may inhibit growth,18 mainly by reducing the amount of arginine available to the virus. Therefore, a lysine- rich, arginine-poor diet can help reduce recurrence and severity of herpes infections. Foods that have a particularly high ratio of arginine/ lysine should be avoided by individuals with recurrent herpes. These include:

  • Nuts (particularly almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, and peanuts)
  • Chocolate
  • Seeds and certain grains (wheat, oats)
  • Raisins, gelatin

 Micronutrients – Herpes

  • Lysine 500 mg to help prevent recurrences, 2–4g during active infection Along with supplemental lysine, reduce intake of arginine-rich foods. May reduce severity and frequency of outbreaks.
  • Vitamin C 250–500 mg to help prevent recurrences. 1 g to help treat active infections Has anti-viral action and may help reduce the severity and shorten the duration of recurrent infections.
  • Vitamin E Apply topically to blisters several times a day) May help reduce pain and enhance healing.
  • Zinc 15–30 mg to help prevent recurrences, 60–100 mg during active infection. Can also be applied topically in zinc-containing creams or lotions Has anti-viral action and may help reduce the severity and shorten the duration of recurrent infections.
